Fortnite on The100 right now: 4 sessions scheduled in the last 30 days and 8 groups active in the last 30 days.
Open Fortnite and you will find a friends list, a party, and a Party Joinability setting. You will not find a clan menu, a clan tag or a clan roster. Every Fortnite clan, from a four-friend Zero Build crew to a competitive team running tryouts, exists outside the game and meets inside it by partying up.
That is less of a limitation than it sounds. Because your friends list and progress live on your Epic Games account rather than your console, a clan can mix PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC and phone players without anyone starting over. The hard part is not the technology. It is finding people who play the same mode, at the same level, at the same hours.

What a Fortnite clan is actually for
Battle Royale queues in Solo, Duos, Trios or Squads, and a squad tops out at four. A clan is deliberately bigger than that: the point of a roster of twenty is that three of them are online when you want to queue Squads, so you are not filling with strangers who drop hot and leave.
The other job is variety. Fortnite is now many games under one launcher — Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Ranked, Ballistic's 5v5 rounds, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Festival, Rocket Racing, and a long tail of Creative islands. A good clan has people for the mode you feel like tonight, which a single duo partner rarely covers.
One thing a clan is not for: teaming in Solo. Epic runs a system that automatically bans teamers in Solo mode, and a group that encourages it is putting your account at risk.
How to pick a Fortnite clan
Start with mode, because it splits the community harder than platform does. Builders and Zero Build players are effectively playing different games; a clan that lives in Zero Build will not help you practise box fights, and a build-heavy clan will leave a no-build player behind in every endgame. LEGO Odyssey clans are different again: they share a persistent world, and the owner decides who gets a key — party members without one are removed when the owner leaves.
Then decide competitive or casual, and be honest about it. Competitive clans run tryouts, scrims and Ranked grinds, and expect you on at set times. Casual clans want people who show up, talk, and do not rage when a squad wipe happens in the first circle. Both are fine. A mismatch is what makes people quit within a week.
Platform matters less than you would expect, since every platform plays together. The exception is a PlayStation or Xbox player who has switched crossplay off — Epic warns some modes may then only work in Solo — so check that setting before you blame the party invite. Region and schedule matter more: an East Coast evening crew and a European one rarely share a lobby at a time either finds reasonable.

Competitive clans, tryouts and tournaments
Fortnite tournaments sit in the Compete tab, and each event sets its own eligibility rules, age limits included. Those rules apply to every player individually, so a team built around someone who cannot enter is a team that cannot play. Ask any competitive clan which events it actually enters before you try out.
Tryouts are run by the clan, not by Epic, and they vary, but the usual shape is a few rounds on a Creative island (you join with an island code) followed by a Ranked or scrim session with the people you would be playing with. If a clan cannot tell you what its tryout is testing — mechanics, comms, or simply whether you turn up on time — it probably does not know.
The big names that show up when you search for top Fortnite clans are esports organisations that sign pro players. They are not clans you apply to, and for most players a smaller team that scrims on a fixed night is the realistic route into competitive play.
Younger players, safety, and where else to look
If you or your kid is under 18, remember that a clan living on Discord sits partly outside Epic's controls. Epic's parental controls let a parent limit chat to Everybody, Friends and Teammates, Friends Only, or Nobody, and console voice settings are separate again. A well-run clan that welcomes younger members says so, keeps an age band, and does not move kids into private voice with adults they have never met.
Other places are good at other things. Epic's official Discord is fast for a one-off squad. r/FortNiteLFG works for posting your platform and region and seeing who replies, and r/FortniteCompetitive is where competitive players talk shop. What neither does well is persistence. On the100, a group (clan) keeps its roster across nights, members post sessions with a start time and open slots, and a Discord bot can post a group's sessions straight into its Discord server.
Fortnite Clans — Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fortnite have clans?
Not as an in-game feature. Fortnite gives you a friends list, parties and a Party Joinability setting, but no clan menu, clan tag or clan roster. Fortnite clans are organised outside the game — usually on Discord or a group-finding site — and play together by partying up in Fortnite.
How do I join a Fortnite clan?
Find a clan that plays your mode and hours, then join its Discord or group and add its members as Epic friends. In Fortnite, set Party Joinability to Friends so clanmates can drop into your party without an invite. Competitive clans usually ask for a tryout first; casual clans normally just want you to show up to a session or two.
How many players can be in a Fortnite clan?
There is no game-imposed cap, because clans are not an in-game feature. What the game does cap is the team you queue with: Battle Royale squads are three or four players. That is why clans run larger rosters — enough people that a full four-stack is online when you are.
Can PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC and mobile players be in the same Fortnite clan?
Yes. Fortnite crossplay covers every platform, including iPhone and Android, and parties can mix them as long as each player's platform account is linked to their Epic Games account. PlayStation and Xbox players need crossplay switched on; on Switch, PC and mobile it cannot be turned off.
How do Fortnite clan tryouts work?
Each clan runs its own, since Epic has no clan system. A typical competitive tryout is a few rounds on a Creative island, often box fights or build fights, followed by a Ranked or scrim session to see how you communicate under pressure. Ask beforehand what is being tested and which tournaments the team enters, because Epic's event eligibility rules, including age limits, apply to each player.
